How to Become a Registered Nurse in Newfoundland and Labrador:
The first step to working as a RN in Newfoundland and Labrador is to obtain an interim or practicing license with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (ARNNL).
Obtaining a License:
Application package is available to download on the ARNNL website:
www.arnnl.ca The Application Package includes:
• Language exams with required scores
• For example: IELTS overall score of 6.5 and speaking score of 7. Other tests also acceptable
? TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score minimum of 550/213 plus TSE (Test of Spoken English) score of 200/50
? TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language (IBT)). Total minimum score of 86 with scores of 26 -speaking, 20 - listening, 20 - reading, and 20 - writing.
? IELTS (International English Language Testing System) overall score of 6.5 with speaking score of 7
? MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) score of 83
? Effective January 1, 2004 TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) score of 800 plus TSE score of 200/50
? CELBAN (Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses). Scores:Â Speaking - 8, Listening – 9, Reading – 8, Writing - 7Â Â
A copy of the official results must be submitted with the application. This is required before the application for registration can be processed. An original report of the test scores is also required to complete the application. Please request the testing company to send an original report of your scores directly to ARNNL.
* Test scores are valid for two years from the testing date.
* Applicants whose test scores expire during the application process will be required to repeat a Test of English prior to being approved to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam or being issued an interim license or registration with ARNNL.
Please note the CELBAN is only available in Canada.
• Generalist education that includes practicum in adult, children, women/families, mental health, and community health
• Professional exams and registration in country of training
• Recent work as a licensed nurse with a certain number of hours or practice
• References and legal documentation
• Registration Fee:Â $125.00
An interim license is valid for 8 months. During that period, all applicants are required to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination to obtain a practicing license.
1. Interviews with candidates for RN positions will be conducted by telephone.
2. Once the candidate has been offered a position, flights will be arranged and paid for by the relevant health authority
3. Relocation assistance varies by health authority. In some areas the health authority may provide the nurse (and their family members) with fully furnished appropriately sized accommodations at no cost for up to 3 months. In other areas housing may be arranged for 4-6 weeks. For more information on specific areas and relocation packages please contact Best Personnel.
4. Some RHA’s will offer a sign-on bonus of $3,000 to $10,000 depending on location and length of service commitment.

• Full-time, part-time and casual jobs available
   Starting Salary: $55,459.00 / nurses with 6+ years of experience will receive an annual salary of $68,526
Benefits
Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP)
• Eligible to permanent full-time employees and to temporary employees working full-time hours for at least a 4-month continuous period
• Contribution rate is based on a percentage of regular salary only. Deductions are matched by the employer
Insurance
• Full-time and part-time employees who work 50% of the regular work week are required to participate in the Group Insurance Program
• Temporary employees, if hired for a period of more than 3 months and working 50% of regular work week are also eligible
